Election 2008
This years election on November 4th is vitally important. To help you better understand the issues, you are invited to check out www.focusvoter.com. This site will compare candidates on various issues, and help you made an informed decision about things on the ballot.
Why Vote?
First, it is a biblical responsibility to vote. In Old Testament times, God’s people were told to “select out of all the people able men who revere God, men of truth, those who hate dishonest gain; and you shall place these over them as leaders.” (Exodus 18:21).
Secondly, it is a right and a privilege. In America, we have the freedom to help direct the course of our country by voting for the men and women who will lead us. And finally, our nation depends upon it. Your vote counts. It is the lifeblood of democracy. And as we face critical issues, we must all do our part in choosing a leader of values, of strong character, and of faith. The future of your children and grandchildren is at stake.

Here is more info on the importance of voting YES on Proposition 8. In response to certain judges and politicians’ efforts to recognize same-sex marriage, many concerned Californians have put Proposition 8 on the November General Election ballot. Prop 8, or the “California Marriage Protection Act,” would amend the California Constitution with a new section that would read, "only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." The title and summary of this proposition were biasly revised by Attorney General Jerry Brown to read negatively, "Proposition 8 would 'eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry' in California."
Why should you care about same-sex marriage? Because the redefining of marriage to include same-sex marriage has serious negative impact on children. Same-sex couples, who adopt children, are denying the children of either a father or a mother. Contrary to what TV ads say, compliance to this new definition of marriage will negatively influence what California educational and religious institutions must do. (For instance, Catholic Charities of Boston was forced to end its adoption work rather than comply with state law requiring that gays be allowed to adopt children.) Furthermore, children indoctrinated to accept this lifestyle can suffer gender confusion or be drawn into the homosexual lifestyle. The Bible groups homosexuality with sins that are destructive in multiple ways. In the Old Testament, Leviticus 18, God identifies sexual relationships that are detestable to Him: Homosexuality, incest and bestiality. In the New Testament, Romans 1, states that homosexuality violates God’s design. But is homosexuality worse than other sins? 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 groups homosexuality with sins such as greed and gossip. How many of us are free from the sins of greed and gossip? James 2:10 reads, “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” In other words, all of us have failed God’s intention and design for mankind. None of us can merit a right relationship with God apart from Jesus’ death on the cross to pay for our sins. The reason the Church and Christians protest against same-sex marriage is because of the harm it does to homosexuals, to children and to the health of families. And the reason for the protest against same-sex marriage and not against greed or gossip is because there is no effort to legalize greed and gossip. Isaiah 5:20 reads, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.” Proponents of same-sex marriage are calling what will harm children, “good.” When this happens, society loses the way back to God’s blessings for marriage, family and children.
